Chili Recipe and Price Breakdown

I got this recipe out of my cookbook called "The Schwarzbein Principle Cookbook" I have adapted it to make it cost less. I have guesstimated on the spice prices. Here is my version:

Chili: Serves 4-6
  • 2 lbs. of ground Turkey (1lb. rolls at Aldi are 1.19)= $2.38
  • 2 cans of Kidney Beans, drained and rinsed (these are .50/can at Aldi)=$1.00
  • 2 cups of chicken broth (I use boulian cubes)=.20 cents maybe
  • 2 cans of diced tomatoes(these are .50/can at Aldi)=$1.00
  • 1 large onion chopped (I use a medium one and bags of these are 1.60 at Aldi for 6)=.27
  • 2 tsp. cumin=.25
  • 3-4 tbsp. chili powder=.35
  • 2 tsp. oregano=.25
  • 2 small bay leaves=.25
  • salt and pepper to taste=pennies
Cook turkey and onion together, drain fat. Add in broth, tomatoes and spices. Simmer for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes add in kidney minutes. Simmer for 15 more minutes. Remove bay leaves and serve!

Total cost= Around $6.00 or $1-$1.50/per serving.
