When to turn on the heat...

Well I confess I kicked on our furnace this morning. It was 63 degrees in the house and freezing! My toddler's toes felt like icicles and my nose was close to freezing too. I usually would hold out, but I just could not do it! I am hoping the sun will warm up our house today!

How about you... have you taken the leap?

Dillons: 21st and Fairlawn

As of yesterday the organic berries (1lb. variety) were on manager special 10/$10! I am not sure if they are still today but if you are heading to the store be sure to check!

JCPenny has come out with a new rewards program. You can sign up for a free membership and for every $250 dollars you spend (earn 1 point per dollar) every month you get $10 back. Now this may not sound like a great deal, but when you sign up you will get double points from now until the end of December. So you only have to spend $125 to get the $10 dollars. Keep in mind that Christmas shopping time is near and this maybe a great deal for you if you shop there often!

Brushetta Chicken Bake: Price Break down

I found this recipe in the Fall 2008 Kraft Food and Family magazine. You can also access it online here. Below you will find the price breakdown for this recipe. The prices are based on what I paid for the ingredients in recent weeks. The price will always vary depending on the sales, but I think you will find that all around this meal is very inexpensive to make and so GOOD!

Ingredients you need: Serves 6
  • 1 can diced tomatoes=.35 (I used Hunts that I got at Dillons a few weeks back)
  • 1 package of stuffing mix for chicken=.79 (I used Aldi brand)
  • 1/2 cup of water=FREE
  • 2 cloves of garlic=.10 (1 head of garlic is less than a dollar so I am guessing here )
  • 1.5 pounds of boneless skinless chicken breasts=1.56 (I only used 1 lb. and I got 3 lbs on sale a few weeks back for 4.67)
  • 1 tsp. dried basil leaves= ? pennies maybe
  • 1 cup of mozzarella cheese=.75 (I used Kroger brand. I got a 4 cup bag for 2.99 a few weeks back)
Total for this meal=$3.55! If you break it down by serving it is only .59 a serving!

Because this recipe is from Kraft they are going to suggest that you use their products such as Kraft cheese and Stove Top stuffing mix. These products are very high priced because of the name brand value. Unless you can get them cheaper than the off brand I suggest not buying them because it can be a budget killer! I think you will find that this recipe tastes just as good with the off brand products.

CVS: Colgate Max Fresh Limit

For the month of October at CVS you can buy Colgate Max Fresh toothpaste with mouth wash beads (6 oz. size) for 2.99 and get 2 EB back. When combined with a 1/1 MF coupon this product is FREE! The limit on these is supposedly 2. A reader has reported that she bought 2 and her receipt does not say she has reached her limit. So.... that means the limit is possibly not 2! Let us know if you buy/bought more and what your receipt says the limit is!

Note: It is confirmed that the limit is not 2, however I am unsure of the actual limit. I bought another tonight (my 3rd) and my limit still is not reached. I am going to venture to guess that the limit is actually 5.

K-Mart: Beauty Book!

In this week's ad it says that there is a K-mart Beauty Book in the Health and Beauty section with coupons totaling over $35 in savings! From past experience these are usually found near the pharmacy counter. I hear the coupons in these are of higher value than normal MF coupons!

CVS

Well shockingly enough nothing is free after EB this week! I did not have the brain power to put together a plan. If I head over there this week to see if I can scrounge up any deals I will be sure to post what I bought.

Have a great Sunday!
