Walgreens: How did you do?

For Thrifty Thursday I thought I would share about my month at Walgreens.

I have a rule with myself about Walgreens and it goes something like this: If I run out of money on my gift card before the month is over I send in my rebates early and do not spend another dime until my card is re-loaded.

I did run out of money by week #2 because of all the great deals, thus I have already sent in my rebates. I absolutely love this whole on-line submission thing because it only takes like 5 days and BAM my card is already re-loaded! Now I can't turn in any more rebate stuff, but I can still shop:)

Every month at Walgreens I try to earn back just as much, if not more than what I spent for the month. This insures that I always have money on my giftcard and keeps me from spending oop!

This month I spent about $53 on my gift card (with 1.52 left) and I got back over $77 in rebates! I made about $24 this month!

Here is what I purchased:
6 Garnier Frutis Hair Sprays
1 Excedrin Express Gells (FAR)
1 Crest Pro-Health toothpaste (FAR)
2 bottles of Crest Pro-Health mouth wash (Free after RRs)
12 bottles of Robitussin ($7 money maker after RRs)
1 Lypsyl (FAR)
1 Walgreens Acid controller (FAR)
2 Glade scented oil refils
2 Glade plug in gell refils
2 Glade plug in gels

1 Loreal anti wrinkle serum (FAR)
1 Chemistry Shampoo (FAR)
1 Revlon nail polish (FAR)
1 Walgreens water pitcher filter (FAR)
2 scrubbing bubbles starter kits
2 bottles of shout

1 humidifier filter (not free, nor did it earn RRs, we just needed it!)

If I add it all up I really got over $155 worth of stuff for $53.

How did you do? Please share in the comments section!

Skillet Lasgna

Courtesy of our MOPS newsletter last year, here is the recipe for Skillet Lasagna. I will also do a price break down for you based on recent prices!

Skillet Lasagna:
  • 1 lb. Italian Sausage Link (used ground that I got for $2 on MS a while back)
  • 1 can of meat flavored spaghetti sauce (I got this for $1/can at Hy-Vee a few weeks back)
  • 3 cups uncooked pasta, cooked according to package directions (I used egg noodles from aldi, I used half the package that cost .99... so .49 for this)
  • 2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese (I got a 2 cup package for 1.68 a few weeks back at Dillons)
Cooke sausage in a 10 inch skillet until crumbled and no longer pink. Drain of grease and add spaghetti sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes and remove from pan. In the mean time cook pasta according to package directions. Once pasta is done layer the bottom of the 10 inch skillet with half of the cooked pasta. Put half of meat mixture on top and sprinkle with some cheese. Top with remaining pasta and then meat mixture followed by the rest of the cheese. Cover and cook over medium heat for 5 minutes or until cooked through and cheese melts. Remove from heat and let it stand 1 minute.

YUMMO as Rachel Ray would say!

This whole dish could easily serve 6 and cost a total of 5.17 to make! If you break it down by 6 servings that would be .86 a serving!

Kids Eat FREE at Hy-VEE!

This coming Thursday, September 25th, Kids can eat free with the purchase of 1 adult meal at the Topeka Hy-Vee!

Don't forget you can also get FREE ice cream on Thursday too!

  • Use FREE coupon=-2.75
  • Use 3 1/1 coupons=-3
  • Total= 5.25 and you get a $5 gift card back!
You can get 4 boxes for only .25 total!

On a Personal Note...

This is a picture of what happens when your calculus teaching husband takes your 19 month old son outside to play with the side walk chalk. I have been noticing that everything turns into a math problem lately:)
