Pizza: Price Breakdown and Recipe

My husband and I love pizza and one of our favorite Friday night traditions before our 1st was born was to order pizza and watch a movie. Well when we did have our 1st ordering pizza was no longer an option so I learned how to make it. We still carry on our Friday night pizza movie tradition and it is much more cost effective this way! Here is the recipe I use and price break down:

Pepperoni Pizza: Serves 4
  • I use this crust recipe here. I figure this maybe costs around .50-.75 to make depending on what kind of deal you get on yeast.
  • 1/3 of jar of pizza sauce. (Kroger brand sauce =1.19 so 1/2 of jar=.40
  • 1/2 pack of Pepperoni (I use Aldi brand=1.99 so 1/2 pack=.98)
  • 2 cups of mozzarella or pizza cheese (I usually pay around 1.70 or less for a 2 cup bag of cheese) This week I got a steal on Kraft cheese and so my cheese only cost me .49!!!
Make your crust and throw on your toppings and bake according to the crust recipe directions and you have an 8-10 slice pizza for less than $4.00! Since I only paid .49 for my cheese this week our pizza will only cost me $2.50!

You can also use different toppings, we just happen to LOVE pepperoni pizza!

That is also the crust recipe I use. Basically you can't mess it up. We also discovered that it can make 2 thin crust pizzas and they are now our favorite. (Had invited guests over last minute and then realized I didn't have enough flour for 2 crusts...oops!)

The kids prefer softer crust so I have been letting them "build their own" pizzas with half the dough and Lane and I have our pizza thin crust style. Yummy! btw, we are beef and pepperoni fans...if I have mushrooms I put them on a couple of my slices.
