23 books for 11.75!

Yes, I have already been to the sale! A friend and I decided it would be worth it to become friends of the library in order to hit the sale tonight. It was a mad house and finding a "legal" parking spot was hard to come by, but I am so glad we went! I was able to find 23 gently used books and got them all for only 11.75! Some are in such good shape they will be good Christmas gifts!

Hope you all have or had fun!

CHEAP Meal!

Tonight as we ate our delicious meal of Pigs in a blanket accompanied by mac and cheese and pears I realized how cheap this meal really was!  Here is the price break down:
  • Hot Dogs- bought on sale for .59/package at Hy-Vee a few weeks ago
  • Crescent Rolls=.59/tube at Dillons last week
  • Mac and Cheese=FREE from a previous Walgreens deal!
  • Pears= bought on sale for .99/lb. a little over a week ago at Hy-Vee.  We actually just split one between the 3 of us.  So we will say this was .40 for the one pear.
Total for the WHOLE meal=1.58!!!  Folks a tube of crescent rolls usually costs this much if not more!  This meal feeds 4.  We feed our 3 mouths and then have some left over the hubby's lunch. Cost per serving=.40!

I don't know if it gets much better than that...

Friends of the Libary Sale!

This coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday is the Friends of the library sale! It is located in Ag Hall at the Expocentre. Times are as follows:
  • Friday 6-9p.m. (MEMEBERS ONLY NIGHT... you can buy a membership at the door)
  • Saturday 9 a.m. - 5p.m.
  • Sunday 1-5 p.m.
This is a great inexpensive way to purchase used books! If you have been before and would like to give us more info about this please do. I apologize in advance if I bump you at this event... I get a little competitive when it comes to a good deal and I am in a mass crown of people:)

Dillons: Gas Deal

Many of you may already be familiar with the Dillons gas discount. During the time period of 1 month starting from the 1st and going until the 30/31st for every $100 dollars you spend at Dillons (including the chineese kitchen!) you will receive .10 cents off up to 32 gallons of gas per purchase. You can see your totals at the bottom of your receipt. It will tell you how much from your transaction qualified toward the discount and what your overall total is for the month. If you spend $200 you get this discount twice!

Here are some things to know about this:
  • You have to use your .10/gallon before the end of the next month. For example during the month of August I had $200 worth of qualifying money go toward the gas discount. This means I get the discount 2 times or in other words for 2 seperate fill ups. I have to use both of these before the end of September of I will loose them.
  • The "qualifiing" money toward your discount is what your total is before MF coupons! So for the month of Aug. I only spent about $120.00 OOP at Dillons, but had just over $200 in qualifing money toward my gas discount!
  • You get this discount up to 32 gallons per purchase. So to get the most out of this my husband I try and fill up our cars at the same time since each car only holds 15 gallons or less we can get both cars filled within the 32 gal. max range! We fill up one car and pull it foward and then fill up the other one in 1 transaction.
  • Even though only 2 of our Dillons stores have a gas station, you can shop at any Dillons and still earn money toward the discount. For example you don't just have to shop at The 29th and Urish location to qualify for the discount from that gas station.
The 2 Topeka stores with gas stations are the locations at 29th and Urish and the one located up North off of HWY 24. The Urish location will give you .10 off a gallon. The North Topeka Dillons will actually give you .20 off a gallon!

I hope this all makes sense! Please feel free to comment with questions.

Dillons: Glade Plug In Deal

Many of you may have seen this deal posted on Money Saving Mom sharing about how you can possibly get FREE Glade Plugins. I have a friend who tried this deal and it did not work. The Manager of one of our Topeka Dillons said you had to use your 1-2-3 Rewards MasterCard in order for the catalina to print out. Does anybody have any more information about this and if it worked for you?

Thanks!

Be sure to place any other deal ideas you came up with for the buy 15 get $3 off promotion in the comments section!

Enchilada Pie!

After our failed attempt many years ago at making homemade enchiladas, my mom and I came up with this recipe. To the side I have noted the best price I can get each item and will do a cost analysis at the end.

Enchilada Pie: (Serves 7-9)
  • 1 lb. ground beef, cooked and drained of fat. (1.99)
  • 1 package of taco seasoning (or add in your own of spices... this is what I do) (free or .50)
  • 1 can of refried beans (.45- Aldi)
  • 2 cans of enchilada sauce. You can use red or green. (1.60 for both- Dillons)
  • 1 pkg. or 2 cups of cheese (I prefer colby and m jack!) (1.50- Dillons)
  • 1 package of CORN tortillas (.99- Aldi)
Brown ground beef, drain fat and combine with taco seasoning. Cook according to package directions. Stir in re-fried beans and remove from heat. Pour 1 can of Enchilada sauce into bowl. Dip corn tortillas in sauce and then place in the bottom of 9x13 pan. I usually use 4-5 tortillas per layer. Put half of your beef/bean mixture on top. Sprinkle with a little cheese. Put another layer of sauce dipped tortillas. Spread rest of beef/bean mixture on top of this and sprinkle a little cheese. Put 1 more layer of sauce dipped tortillas on top and pour 2nd can of sauce over all. Top with the rest of the cheese. Cover with foil and bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes or until middle is done.

With your left over corn tortillas you can make your own homemade tortilla chips. Just fry them in a little oil, break apart and serve them up with salsa or guacamole... yum!

The total to make this dish assuming you get everything at the best price would be $7.03. If you got 7 servings out of this it would cost $1 per person, if you got 9 it would cost about .78 per person. This is not my most frugal recipe, but it is still good!

Enjoy!

Dillons: 21st and Fairlawn

If you go by there I would stop and peak at their clearance items. They have Cover Girl products marked to 1.99 and under. They have lipstick, blush and mascara!!! There were also few Revlon lips liners and nail polishes that I saw as well. With using MF coupons you can get a great deal!

Menu Plan Monday- Sep. 15th

It has been a while since I posted a menu hasn't it? Here is what we are planning for the week!

Sunday: Tacos. Yep that is all we had b/c we were in a time crunch... the tomatoes and lettuce can serve as the nutrients in this meal:)
Monday: Enchilada Pie/salad/tortilla chips/fruit
Tuesday: Sandwiches... we are eating on the go so to speak
Wednesday: Skillet Lasagna/green beans/bread
Thursday: Pigs in a blanket/mac and cheese/broccoli/apple slices
Friday: Pizza!

I have to confess that part of me not posting Menu Plan Monday for a while had been out of my own struggle of comparison (what women doesn't struggle with that:). I was seeing all these other great menu plans that seemed so wonderful and had all the food groups covered. The reality is folks that I don't always get a veggie with dinner and we may not always eat the healthiest meal, and I have to be okay with that! I figure my worth as a wife and mom is not in whether or not we have 7 whole grains a day, although that is not a bad ambition. We are just your ordinary family trying to get by and we haven't gone hungry so that is a start!:)

Happy Monday!

McDonalds: FREE McCafe!

Some markets in the U.S. have already gotten to enjoy this deal, but from what I understand all Topeka McDonalds are finally offering the Free McCafe Monday deal! Every Monday from 6a.m. to 2p.m. you can get a FREE small McCafe from McDonalds!

CVS: My actual Trip

I usually stick to my plan, but this week I didn't becasue I have already done the Just for Men rebate and the Aleive is only available at the pharmacy and I was at CVS before the pharmacy counter opened. This is what I did instead:
  • 2 Purex=5.98
  • 2 CG wet slicks=7.98
  • 1 CG eye shadow=2.99
  • 1 Excedrin=3.99 (I posted a link to a coupon for this but it is for 24ct. and higher... sorry!)
Total =20.94
-2/10
- 1 BIGI wet slicks=-3.99
-1/1 CG coupon
- 1/2 Purex coupon
=12.95, and I got back 8.99 in EB.

I burned 4 EB on this deal which I normally don't do, but I had a large EB that was going to expire and I needed to use it! I have to confess that I hate "burning" EBs, but this served as a good reminder for me to remember that since all of the money of the world is God's money, then so are my EBs and he will still provide even in the midst of a few "burned" EBs:)
